“Tekenend Verlies” (Drawing Loss) is a project about early parental loss.
Losing my father at 16 years old in 2014, made me realise that losing a parent at a young age is a common thread throughout your life. It is something that pops up with every big event and every new milestone, it’s never a closed case. You are grieving what has been, but also what never will be.
For this project I’ve had conversations with other people who have lost a parent before they turned 25, about how they have experienced, and are still experiencing, this loss. I visualise their stories, thought processes, feelings and fears through illustration, because sometimes it’s better to draw something, than to explain something.
This project is supported by Playgrounds Next, Cultuurfonds Makersregeling, and Gemeente ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
